Sew Fab Spring 2014 collage

The Laurel Dress or Tunic by Greenstyle Creations, The Satchel Bag by Handmade Therapy, The Lexi Knit Dress and Top by MODKID, The Piko Top by EYMM, The Bowling Shirt from Scientific Seamstress (unisex), The Seraphic Pant by Figgy's (unisex), The Tulip Pinafore by Too Sweets Patterns, The Big Tote Bag by Things for Boys, The Doll and Carrier by Patchwork Posse, Poppy and Pip Penguins by Betz White, Leather Accent Foldover Pouch by LBG Studio, The Norah Dress and Tunic by Mouse House Creations, Crayon Art Folio by Gingercake, The Tennis Skort (12M-12Y) by Heidi & Finn, The Ruffled Bustle Top by Sumo's Sweet Stuff, Long Beach Board Shorts (unisex) by Terra's Treasures, The Cupcake Top (unisex) by Sewing Mama RaeAnna, The Saffron Twirl Dress from Paisley Roots Designs, The Sweet Tea Shorties by Molly Blossom Designs.

I sewed the sleeveless version and left off the collar (there are A LOT of options with this dress) so I could have a blank canvas to work with. I Ironed on a large piece of lightweight interfacing on the back of the dress in the area that I planned to do the embellishments.

For the text, I took a fading fabric marker and just wrote out the words "let it go" in a fancy script and sewed back and forth over a few times over the lines (roughly) to make it stand out.

I then embellished the words, with sequins, beads and flat-back jewels, and embroidered snowflakes. I tried to make it as magical and 'snowy' as I could.
You can never have enough jewels right?

I LOVE they way it turned out....not too 'frozen', but a pretty dress that could be worn many times. I also like that they style of this pattern allows for all season wear, as well as years of  wear (she can wear it as a tunic next year)

I also made up a quick headband to match the dress

Here is what I did

You need, a plain or solid colored headband, felt snowflakes and some flat-back jewels, and a gluegun

I used ones that were a thicker felt, I got them off this strange felt banner thing (I have NO idea where it came from....I have the strangest things in my craft room :) ). I just cut them off the banner

I used a glue gun to stick the snowflakes on. I pretty much just kept them to one side and kept overlapping them until I as happy with how it looked.

Then I added the jewels to the center of the snowflakes, and Voila! a pretty snowy headband

And it goes perfectly with the dress....

So go grab you Sew Fab Bundle now and get sewing!

Frozen inspired mini crayon folio - a gingercake pattern

Combine my girls love of all things drawing with their frozen obsession and the result is this...."THE MOST PERFECT DRAWING THING IN THE WORLD!!!!" (their quote not mine)

I used the mini crayon art folio pattern by Gingercake patterns

Which is also part of the Sew Fab bundle sale that is going on this week
;Buy It Now

This has become my girls new favorite thing!(and great for keeping them busy)

The pattern is really cute, holds a few crayons and some paper (you could add some stickers too). Perfect thing to throw in a purse for the car ride, lineups, restaurants etc.

To make the Frozen ones, I simply used Iron-on transfer paper with an image I pulled from the web, pressed onto white cotton, and cut to size! I followed the directions as is, using the image fabric for the outer shell of the folio. The only change I made was to wrap the velcro tab to the back, rather then the front so the image would not get covered

They are also really fast to make!....and fun...I figured they would make perfect little gifts to have on hand for parties and thanks yous and whatevers....so I made a "few" more hahaha

So grab your Sew Fab bundle today and start sewing your own collection of crayon art wallets! :)

Elsa top - cupcake top pattern

Since my daughter wants to wear nothing but an Elsa costume around the house, we are often fighting when it comes to getting dressed for school ("no you cannot wear this mostly sheer, about to rip, inappropriate for the weather costume to school")

But THIS top I am comfortable with her wearing outside, and to school :)

I used  the Cupcake top by Sewing Mama Raeanna to make this Elsa top, with only a few, very minor, adjustments
This pattern is part of the Sew Fab Bundle Sale going on this week only!

It used a shiny light weight knit material for the white part of the shirt, and a stretch satin for the aqua part. I kept the back as is (in white) and cut a straight line accross the front pattern piece. I cut out the top in white and the bottom in aqua.

Before I put the top together and cut a rectangle, slightly larger the the aqua front, out of aqua sparkle chiffon for the 'cape'. I just folded under the top edge and top stitched it , gathering as I went,  right on the back in a straight line.

I constructed the top as directed and it came out great...and fast (only 1/2 a nap for both cutting and sewing)
A great little top for the Elsa princess in your life

Go get your Sew Fab bundle today and start sewing!

And of course, the obligatory collage of Elsa poses (while listening to the soundtrack) :)
